Jen and Jessie wanted to make sure that every part of their wedding was F-U-N! They started their day with a ride on the Buzzbus through scenic Rehoboth, MA. Of course, Jessie didn't get to see any of it because he had to be blindfolded so he wouldn't see his lovely bride before the ceremony. The ceremony and reception were at the beautiful Hillside Country Club. It was a bright, sunny day where we got beautiful photos on the golf course. Then, the guests spent the night dancing to the DJ Mike Norday's energetic party tunes!

This was a stylish and fun wedding right here in Providence, Rhode Island! Jason and Andy live in Boston, but they both attended Brown University, got married in Manning Chapel and then partied the night away at the Faculty Club. The wedding party and the guests stayed in the historic Providence Biltmore. Jason and Andy had an intimate wedding, with their families and closest friends. This allowed them to focus on all of the important details and ensure that every guest was wined, dined, and swept away!
This was a stunning early-autumn wedding at Greenvale Vineyards in Portsmouth, RI. Greenvale has a beautiful, rustic grounds with green fields, views of the water, a barn, a tasting room, and the grape arbors. The varieties and quality of wines Greenvale offers are unparalleled. Even if you are not getting married, it's worth a trip. Pick up a few bottles, and then head over to the Polo Grounds to take in a match. Keith and Janelle curated every aspect of their wedding to ensure a truly personal experience that brought out their personalities and the magic of the day!
This was a stunning late-spring wedding at Castle Hill in Newport, Rhode Island. Newport is easily the wedding capital of Rhode Island, and it is quickly becoming the most popular wedding destination for all of New England, if not the entire East Coast. Jacky and Todd had an elegant wedding replete with a live band, hand-rolled cigars, and of course... lobster rolls!
This is another favorite with Patrick Wiley from Eternal Events performing as DJ! Holly and Louie got married in a big, traditional wedding in Kingstown at the Quidnessett Country Club. This is a great venue for lots of friends and family to get together. The grounds are beautiful. The food is great. The bar is stocked. And the rooms are GIGANTIC! Lots of space to get crazy on the dance floor!
I love weddings in Bristol, Rhode Island. Bristol is an adorable town between Providence and Newport with great shopping, ocean views, pubs, cafes, and restaurants. It has an historic charm, and guests can always find entertainment throughout your wedding weekend. Bristol is home to some of my favorite venues including Blithewold Mansion, Mount Hope Farm, and Linden Place. Hannah and Mike got married at DeWolf Tavern and Bristol Harbor Inn. We started the day with a "First Look" and got a lot of fantastic photos on Main Street. Then everyone had a blast dancing the day away to DJ Kevin Kretchman with Sound Design Weddings.
I always say that engagement sessions are great because even though you've had your picture taken a few times in front of Niagara Falls when you were on vacation, you've never had your picture taken 1000 times in eight hours. A engagement session helps you get comfortable in front of the camera, it helps you understand how your photographer works, and you get a bunch of great pictures you can use for save-the-dates, or to make a sign-in book for the gift table. I photographed Erika and Tim for their engagement session at Beavertail Park on Jamestown Island. It was a perfect day, and we had a lot of fun!
Late summer and early autumn are quickly becoming the most popular time to get married in New England. Eliza and Gibby got married at Gibby's parents' home in Kingstown. They put up a tent in the back yard, set up a fire pit, and brought in a band. They had dancing in the barn and Ben and Jerry's ice cream! It's always fun when a wedding is on family property. Gibby showed us the trails and tree fort where he and his groomsmen used to play when they were little. Now the pictures are special memories for the whole family!
This was another stunning summer wedding at Whispering Pines and it was another Rockin' Time with Patrick Wylie at Eternal Events. Cleo and Thomas wanted to showcase the beauty of summer in Rhode Island. So they chose bright purple and yellow flowers, and traditional but not-too-formal dress. The rustic beauty of the setting brings out the fun mood and romance of the day. Plus, check out that dip at the end of the first dance!
The Newport Beach House was once the Atlantic Beach Club. Either way, it's beautiful venue with stunning views on Second Beach. Caroline and John had a fun, laid-back mid-summer wedding. Lots of whites, golds, and sky blue. And every wedding is more romantic with a sunset walk on the beach!
I view Aldrich Mansion as the "forgotten gem" of the Rhode Island mansions. It has the view, grounds, and features of a Newport mansion, but it's in a quiet, little corner of Warwick! As a result, you don't have to worry about the traffic or expense of Newport. Every wedding I photograph at Aldrich is simply a pleasure because the staff are so friendly and accommodating.
Camille and Dan had a truly elegant summertime wedding at Ocean Cliff in Newport, RI. They made sure to pay attention to all of the details, so they got exactly what they wanted at their wedding. Camille picked out the beautiful flowers, cake, and dresses. Dan's suit--and all of his groomsmen's suits--were custom made. It also helped that they had a great party and everyone wanted to DANCE!
This was a fun, beautiful wedding at the Roger Williams Botanical Center. Alli got ready at the Omni Providence Hotel. It was a sparkling sunny day. Pranzi, one of the most talented caterers in Rhode Island kept the guests well nourished. The party rolled into the night with some...energetic dancing. Alli and Tom really wanted wanted to have a lot of fun with the photographs, so their pictures really show off their energetic, unique style.
Allison and Sean really made their Bristol, RI wedding stand out with simple themes and vibrant colors. This was truly an elegant, summertime, Rhode Island wedding. They got married at DeWolf Tavern and Bristol Harbor Inn. Kevin Kretchman from Sound Design kept everyone dancing all night. Ali's bridesmaids wore sapphire dresses, and she chose a bouquet with summertime colors to match Sean's tie. We also lucked out and found a field of dandelions to get a few great shots!
Craig and Anne had a beautiful, rustic, New England summertime wedding. Their wedding was at Whispering Pines on the Alton Jones Campus of URI. They made wonderful use of the setting by decorating everything with fresh-cut flowers. The centerpieces, alter, and even Anne's stunning hairdo. Anne and Craig's friends are into karaoke, and Craig serenaded Anne on the dance-floor! Patrick Wyllie from Eternal Events kept the party rocking all night long!
Amy and Paul got married at South Shore Beach in Little Compton, RI, on a private estate. This was the definition of an elegant, late-summer, New England wedding. Every detail was carefully and lovingly chosen, and the golden summertime setting sun lit everything from diamond rings to lobster claws. Amy and Paul also make a great decision with Patrick Wyllie from Eternal Events Wedding DJ services. Enjoy the photos!
A common question couples ask me is "What if it rains at our wedding?!?" From a photography standpoint, your wedding has four sessions: bridal preparation, ceremony, formal portraits, and reception. You are probably getting ready in a hotel room or salon, and your reception is probably going to be in a ballroom or a tent. You should speak with your venue about indoor or covered locations for the ceremony, and cocktail hour. Visually, this will not affect the quality or appearance of your wedding pictures. When you speak to the venue, you can also ask them about an indoor alternative for your formal portraits. Here in New England, 24-hours of rain is pretty rare. If there are a few moments of dry and calm outside, I can whisk you out to get a few quick photos. Often, the rain adds a beautiful drama and fun memories!
Kendra and Ken had a beautiful church wedding at St. Francis De Sales Church in North Kingstown, RI, and then a spectacular reception at Belle Mer on Goat Island, in Newport, RI. One question couples often ask me is, "Should we do a receiving line?" or, more commonly, "What's a receiving line?" Kendra and Ken had an afternoon wedding and a evening reception. This gives couples a lot of flexibility to relax, take formal portraits, touchup hair and makeup, and even change outfits before the cocktail hour. It also gives friends and family members a chance to get lunch, a drink, and enjoy downtown Newport. Because of the gap in the schedule, Kendra and Ken opted for a receiving line, so they could spend a few moments with each of their guests right after the ceremony. The break also meant that everyone was refreshed ready to party. Lucky for them, they had a great DJ too! Bill Bibeau of Rhythm Express.
Yvette and Ron had an intimate backyard wedding at their home in Dartmouth, MA. The wedding was mostly family and a few close friends. Ron has a large family including two beautiful children. Yvette owns Yvette Frazier Floral Design, so she knows her way around a wedding. As a result, this was exactly the wedding they wanted. An intimate ceremony in their backyard with her step-father officiating. A cocktail reception at Cork Wine and Tapas in New Bedford, MA with one of my favorite bands, Elly and the Bear playing music, and then dinner, drinks, and games in a tent back at the house. Enjoy the photos!
Welcome, brides, grooms, guests, and wedding photo fans! I'm always getting a lot of questions about weddings in Rhode Island. Questions about venues, entertainment, scheduling, and other ideas. I considered starting a FAQ, but I figured it would be more enjoyable to start posting a blog with tips, tricks and ideas. At every wedding, I learn something new about photography, timing, receptions, and ceremonies. My hope is that you will find this enjoyable and helpful too!
